Al-Rawabi announces the operation of the first biogas facility in the region
Al Rawabi Company announced the operation of its biogas facility at full capacity; This is on the sidelines of its participation in the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition “WETEX” and Dubai Solar Energy, which will be held from 5-7 October 2021, at Expo 2020 Dubai.
This facility is the largest of its kind in the Middle East. Through it, Al-Rawabi aims to convert the organic waste generated from its farms into clean energy, which is expected to reach 1.3 megawatts of green electric energy.
Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Rawabi, said: “As a sustainable company and in line with our firm responsibility towards our society, Al Rawabi now generates a large portion of the energy it uses in its operations by converting organic waste into clean fuels. Our transition to green energy brings us one step closer to our goal of making our operations cleaner and more environmentally friendly. Investing in this project is not only reflected in our green environmental footprint, but it also has great benefits for our economies in business performance.”
According to statements made by Al Owais on the sidelines of his visit to the company’s booth at the exhibition, the Al Rawabi biogas facility was established to support the sustainability agenda in the UAE. He explained that by replacing traditional and non-renewable energy sources with cleaner and more sustainable alternatives, Al Rawabi hopes to reduce its carbon emissions and cut gas emissions by 80%.
Professor Ahmed El-Tijani, CEO of Al Rawabi, said: “This sustainable facility is part of a plan to transform towards a circular economy, which the UAE targets as part of its vision for a more sustainable future. The facility has so far achieved a higher than expected return on investment; This has been since the start of its trial operations last June.
Al-Tijani added: “Al-Rawabi is keen to a standards that aim to address urgent health problems such as the high incidence of non-communicable diseases, especially obesity and diabetes, among consumers. We are proud that social responsibility is at the forefront of our priorities, and we look forward to being active pioneers in promoting public health and supporting sustainability programmes.”
